Warm the Soul 5 (A Look Back at '09)

For those of us here in New England, it's been cold lately. Nothing unusual for the month of December. It just makes for a lot more preparation to do anything outside... extra sweater, coat, hat, gloves, extra socks, boots and so on. So, its always a little shocking to remember it was only a few months ago when we were all outside enjoying beautiful summer nights at Gunstock Mountain. Its the time of year when you can just walk outside in your flip flop, shorts and t-shirts. Get your tickets for 2010 soon... there are plenty of great deals to take advantage of.... click here.

So, here is a clip to warm up your soul... from SoulFest '09.

Quick Review of Switchfoot

Switchfoot played many dates in New England this past week, however I traveled a little further out to see them. Friday was my brother's birthday and he lives just outside of Philadelphia. Switchfoot was playing Philly that same night. So... instead of opting for one of the New England dates, I got in the car, drove down to southern New Jersey, surprised my brother and joined him to see the show.

I hear the Boston show was great... here you can see Jon Foreman and SoulFest founder Dan Russell.
I had a chance to see them at the TLA Theater on South St. in Philly. An intimate venue for a rock show with an open floor and plenty of unique corners for Jon to roam to while singing. The concert took on a fairly unique route by playing through all 12 new tracks of Hello Hurricane in order. It really gave the band the opportunity to express the total story of their most recent album. Having seen this performance, I wonder why more bands don't take this approach. Never preachy, Jon's lyrics consistently deliver a message of hope and their music never lacks for emotion and yearning. I can barely wait to see them as they rock the stage at Gunstock Mountain this summer. It may be one of the most memorable experiences in the history of the Soulfest. Don't miss it!
